Kyril and her twin sister Kyrine were born in the Telmarine castle and their father was King Caspian IX’s closest friend and advisor. Kyril and young Prince Caspian were best friends and grew up together until Kyril’s father sent the girls and their mother to live on his sister’s estate when they were 15, because it became clear that Miraz was intent on overthrowing the king and getting rid of his advisors. Caspian and Kyril were virtually inseparable up until that point, and it had always been assumed but never formally stated that upon reaching the age of majority they would be wed.
Shortly after one of her father’s visits to the estate, Telmarine soldiers arrived at the estate, killed everyone inside and burned it to the ground. Kyr was deep in the forest at the time, and returned to find her home destroyed and everyone she knew dead or dying, and her sister missing. She set off in the direction she thought was Narnia, but got hopelessly lost and ended up on the southern shores of Lake Evendium in the North, where she came across the remains of a dragon that had obviously been killed by hunters. Tucked under her wing was a young, unfledged dragonet, still alive but just barely.
Kyril took care of the dragonet and nursed it back to health, and when it was able to walk again she continued around to the northern shores of the Lake where it had been rumored that there were Dragons and Elves living peacefully among the forests. She passed on the story of how she had found the dragonet and it’s deceased mother, and she was welcomed by both Elf and Dragon alike. She was offered lodging and training, and stayed among her new ‘family’ until she turned 18, but she never forgot Caspian, and she never lost her longing for home. Lythandestelasheria, the dragonet she had rescued, had been young enough that a bond had formed between them.
Lythande, as she came to be called, understands Narnian but cannot speak it, so the Elders of her clan agreed to teach Kyril to speak in their tongue instead so she could communicate with her heart-sister. The Draca language is very similar to Elven, but it is largely sibilant and gutteral and difficult for humans to master. Kyril’s adoptive Clan are forever teasing her about what they call her ‘Narnian accent’.
When word of Caspian’s exile from the castle reached Lake Evendium, Kyril took her leave of the Elves to return to offer her oldest friend her help in restoring the throne and Narnia to its rightful path. Lythande decided that her heart-mother needed her more than the Clan did, and along with Seath Anavari, Kyril’s closest friend among the Elves, accompanied Kyril south to the lands claimed by Telmar.
Despite the battle and other difficulties, Kyril wed Caspian and rules alongside him in Narnia. She is Narnia's first Dragonrider.
